Biography
Benicio Del Toro was born in Puerto Rico and grew up in Pennsylvania. He studied acting at The Stella Adler Conservatory with Arthur Mendoza. Del Toro has received awards for Best Supporting Actor in Bryan Singer’s The Usual Suspects and Julian Schnabel’s Basquiat. His performance in Steven Soderbergh’s Traffic earned him various awards and the Silver Bear Award for Best Actor at the Berlin Film Festival, as well as an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor. His work in Alejandro Gonzáles Iñárritu’s 21 Grams led to another Oscar nomination, and he won the Audience Award for Best Actor at the Venice Film Festival. For his title role in Soderbergh’s Che (part 1&2), a biography of Che Guevara, he won Best Actor at the Festival de Cannes and at the Goya Awards in Spain. Recently, he starred in a remake of The Wolfman.
