Synopsis

Professor Michael Padovic is an American researcher working on a thesis destined to prove that Shakespeare was of Spanish, not British, ancestry. He is missing certain essential documents, which he supposes are to be found in the archives of the ancient convent of Arrabida. Michael and Hélène Padovic's host at the convent, is its guardian, a disturbing character named Baltar. There is something mysterious about Hélène, Michael's wife, which captivates Baltar. In order to divert her husband's attention, he suggests that the Professor employ the convent's new archivist, Piedade, as his assistant. The fact Piedade is young and beautiful increases the general tension, serving both Baltar's diabolical purposes and Hélène's subtle manipulation. The situation becomes increasingly bizarre, culminating in an unexpected outcome.
