Synopsis

Ernest Borgnine, who won the Best Actor Oscar for this performance, plays the eponymous New York City butcher who gives up on love - until he meets an equally lonely schoolteacher in a charming story that is the only film ever to win both a Best Picture Oscar and a Palme d'or at Cannes.
