All the interviews with Jury members

Invited to bring their unique sensibilities to the Official Selection, the Jury members came together from all over the world for 12 days in the darkened halls of the Palais des Festivals, as they went about picking the winners of the 72nd Festival de Cannes. 21 films in Competition, 18 films in the Un Certain Regard Selection, 27 first films competing in the Caméra d'Or, 10 short films and 17 film school entries. Through their discussions, their choices and favourites, each of the Jury members brought their own distinctive voice to the 2019 list of best picks.

Now that the films are being shown week after week and embarking on their international careers, we look back, in a series of interviews, at how these films seemed to the Jury members who watched them in Cannes last May.

Feature Film In Competition Jury

Un Certain Regard Jury

Nadine Labaki: "Arab directors bring us very socially committed movies, which are not just films but more cries of outrage."
Lukas Dhont: "I really want to be whisked away into other worlds."
Marina Foïs: "Film is an attempt to look in places where we don't usually look, through the eyes of others."

Short Films and Cinéfondation Jury

Claire Denis: "I like dialogues that are like the rhythm or soundtrack of a film. Silence can be very beautiful. Very mysterious."

  Caméra d'or Jury

Rithy Pahn: "I was looking for a way to say things that words can't express."
