Wes Anderson accompanied by Tilda Swinton, Edward Norton, Bill Murray, Bruce Willis and the film crew answered journalists' questions about the opening film, Moonrise Kingdom presented In Compétition.
Wes Anderson on why he chose Jared Gilman and Kara Hayward:
"I've already made a number of films in which young actors took the lead roles. I look for my comedians from a very young age. Jared Gilman's personality made a big impression on me. I saw his auditions, but it wasn't until the interview that I had with him that he suceeded in really making me laugh. As for Kara Hayward, I got the impression that she had already played a lot of roles. I expected her to be the one who would get the dialogue going, but there was an immediate spark between our two young actors."
Edward Norton on why he wanted to take part in this film:
"It's really great to find yourself surrounded by actors who have all studied Orson Wells or the theatre. Wes Anderson has created a great troop of actors made up of all these comedians working together in a fairly romantic context... It's a bit like what you want to do when you're still young and you want to make a film in your family's back garden."
Jared Gilman on making a film with Kara Hayward:
"We attended different rehearsals. Above all, we got to know each other by writing the letters that you see in the film. We sent each other emails outside of the shooting. We really tried to do something very genuine. We learned to get to know each other."
Moonrise Kingdom will be screened on Wednesday, 16th May 2012 in the Grand Théâtre Lumière at 8 p.m. and 11 p.m.
