This time, James Bond is on a double mission. He has to escort a Soviet secret service agent to the West and bring back a top secret decoding device.
Before boarding the Orient Express, Bond and Tatiana have to escape from their enemies on outboard motorboats, resulting in a mythic chase scene off the Turkish coast. However, Daniela Bianchi, who plays the role of the spy Tatiana, turned out to be extremely sensitive to seasickness. Added to that, there were engine and petrol problems, so that the crew team only got some thirty seconds of usable images out of a thirteen-hour day of shooting.
More anecdotally, the scene where Bond and Tatiana are chased by rats in the sewers also provided its share of problems. As wild rats were forbidden, the team covered tame rats with cocoa, neglecting to take into account the greedy nature of the little creatures who gobbled up the chocolate. The scene was finally shot in Madrid with a rat catcher.
