Residence Rules and regulations


Article 1

The Festival Residence accommodates young filmmakers who have directed one or several short films, or even a first feature film, and who are working on a feature film project (fiction project only no animation).
Two sessions take place each year.
The duration of each session is of four-and-a-half months.
Article 2

The Residence's next session will run from October 1, 2013 to February 15, 2014.
The filmmakers selected commit themselves to living at the Residence for the complete duration of the session.

 
Article 3


Are to be sent to the Festival's Residence office - 3 rue Amélie 75007 Paris:


- copy of your registration slip you will get after validation of your online application,
- DVD of the films already made - both short and features films - (do not send video clips or showreel)
 

Are to be sent by e-mail : residence@festival-cannes.fr:
- feature film project in progress at the moment of application (screenplay in development or 10 pages minimum treatment)
- synopsis
- intention note (artistic, technical and financial vision statement)
- resume (Curriculum Vitae)
- copy of your passport

 

All documents must be in English or in French.

 

Very important: all the above must be sent in a single document (PDF format).

 

Films made in a language other than French or English must be subtitled in French or English, or, at the very least, be accompanied by a list of dialogues in French or English.
 

Incomplete applications will not be examined by the jury.

 

Should the sender choose to use an express mail service, he should clearly mention on the package that it is "for cultural purpose only” and “without commercial value” and declare a symbolic value of "US$ 1" only. The sender should make sure he pays all transport costs and import taxes. Otherwise the Cinéfondation reserves the right to refuse the package.

 

The materiel is not sent back

 

The closing date for applications is April 1, 2013 (arrival date of the material).

Article 4

The preliminary jury, that establishes the shortlist of potential candidates, is comprised of at least 3 personalities from the world of film. The preliminary jury examines applications and views the films that have been sent by applicants so as to establish the shortlist of candidates. The preliminary jury may establish a shortlist of up to 12 candidates and may decide some must be interviewed by the final jury. This hearing will take place by videoconference.

All candidates must be fluent in English or in French.


You will be informed of the result of the preliminary jury mid-June.
Article 5

Except in the case of special dispensation the final jury comprises 5 members. It is presided by Gilles Jacob, President of the Cannes Film Festival and the Cinefondation. The jury for the next session will meet on July 10, 2013.
The jury examines the applications and watches the films of all the shortlist candidates. It evaluates the candidates according to the filmmaking qualities found in the films already made, the merit of the feature film project and the candidate's reasons for participating in the Residence's programme.
The jury designates the 6 selected candidates. Decisions are made according to relative majority of votes.
Article 6

If any selected candidate in unable to participate in the session, the jury may replace them by another shortlist candidate.
