President of the jury - Feature film Luc BESSON

President (France) Director, screenplay writer and producer, Luc Besson had his first contact with the world of cinema at 17 on the shoot of a short film of Patrick Grandperret. He was his second assistant on Court-circuit and followed with Deux Lions au Soleil by Claude Faraldo, Loulou by Maurice Pialat, and even a James Bond, Moonraker. He also worked as Régis Wargnier's assistant on commercials. He met Jean Reno during a casting. Luc Besson wrote between two jobs. He shot a mucic video with the collaboration of Pierre Jolivet on 16 mm; this was his first real experience directing. Then he shot his first short, L'Avant Dernier, black and white, scope, with Pierre Jolivet and Jean Reno. It was presented at the Festival du Film Fantastique d'Avoriaz. He worked on the screenplay of a first feature film, entitled Subway. Because of the producer, he was forced to abandon the project and decided to develop L'Avant Dernier into a feature. This was the birth of LeDernier Combat. The film was well received at the Festival d'Avoriaz 1983 and won the Jury Prize and the Critics' Prize. He then directed music videos : Serge Gainsbourg, Mon Beau Légionnaire and d'Isabelle Adjani, Pull marine.

The Belgian director, Luc Dardenne and his brother Jean-Pierre directed and produced numerous documentaries including Le Chant du rossignol (1978), Leçons d'une université volante (1982) with their production company Dérives. Luc Dardenne and his brother directed The Promise (1996), then Rosetta (1999) which received the Palme d'Or at the Cannes Festival in 1999. He runs a screenplay writing workshop at the Université Libre de Bruxelles.
